# 30-day reading challenge for busy days

Ten pages a day is about 300 pages in a month, a whole book for many people. Keep four small rules for 30 days, follow a prompt a day, and reading becomes something you just do again.

30 days, four habits a day.

## The rules: four small habits

Ten pages is the heart of it. The other three make room for it.

| Habit | How often | When |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Read 10 pages | Every day | Before bed |
| Take your book with you | Every day | Morning |
| Phone on charge | Every day | Evening |
| Note a line you loved | Every day | Before bed |

- **Read 10 pages**: Ten pages, or ten minutes if pages feel long. In Cozy you can track it as an amount and see the pages add up.
- **Take your book with you**: Keep it in your bag for the bus, the queue and the wait at the café. Those minutes add up.
- **Phone on charge**: Plug your phone in across the room before you pick up your book, so it does not pull you away.
- **Note a line you loved**: Copy one sentence into a notebook. At the end of the month you have a little book of your own.

## The plan: 30 days, one small step each

Keep the rules every day, and add the day's prompt on top. Swap any prompt for one you like better.

### Week 1: Get started

- Day 1: Pick a book you actually want to read
- Day 2: Read your 10 pages in bed
- Day 3: Find a cozy reading spot
- Day 4: Read with a warm drink
- Day 5: Read on the bus or in a queue
- Day 6: Read 10 more if you feel like it
- Day 7: Write what you think so far

### Week 2: Make room for it

- Day 8: Swap 15 minutes of scrolling for a book
- Day 9: Listen to an audiobook on a walk
- Day 10: Visit a library or bookshop
- Day 11: Read outside
- Day 12: Start the day with 5 pages
- Day 13: Read a short story in one go
- Day 14: Tell someone about your book

### Week 3: Explore

- Day 15: Try a genre you never pick
- Day 16: Read a poem
- Day 17: Reread a favorite chapter
- Day 18: Read a book a friend loved
- Day 19: Read for 20 minutes, phone in another room
- Day 20: Make a list of books to read next
- Day 21: Read before you check your phone

### Week 4: Keep going

- Day 22: Finish your book, or keep going
- Day 23: Write three lines about it
- Day 24: Pick your next book
- Day 25: Read in a café or a park
- Day 26: Talk books with a friend
- Day 27: Read the last pages slowly
- Day 28: Swap a book with someone

### Days 29 and 30: Look back

- Day 29: Count your pages this month
- Day 30: Choose your reading habit for next month

## If you miss a day

Missing a day is part of any challenge, not the end of it. Pick up with the next day's prompt and carry on. A month of most days is still a month of small habits kept.

In Cozy, a busy day does not have to cost you a streak: skip the habit for the day and its streak holds. Away or unwell for a while? Pause the habit, and its streak waits for you.

## Keep the challenge in Cozy

Make these four habits in Cozy and tick each one off as you go. The cards fill with color and your streak counts the days.

## Three tips for 30 days

### Read what you want to read

Not the book you think you should read. A page-turner you love beats a classic you dread opening.

### Put the book where your phone goes

On your pillow, by the kettle, in your bag. Reading fits nicely into a [night routine](https://www.cozyhabittracker.com/routines/night-routine).

### Quit books you don't enjoy

Fifty pages in and still bored? Put it down and start another. The habit matters more than any one book.

## Rather use paper?

Print the [reading tracker](https://www.cozyhabittracker.com/printables/reading-tracker) and color in a book for each day you read your pages. More small ideas are in these [learning habits](https://www.cozyhabittracker.com/habit-ideas/learning).

## Questions

### How many pages should I read a day?

Ten pages is a common start and fits most days. Pick a number you can keep on your busiest day, and read more when you feel like it.

### Do audiobooks and ebooks count?

Yes. Any book you take in counts in this challenge: paper, an ebook or an audiobook on a walk.

### How do I find time to read?

Use the small gaps: the bus, a queue, ten minutes before bed with your phone away. Taking your book everywhere does most of the work.

### What if I miss a day?

Carry on the next day. In Cozy you can skip a habit for a busy day without losing its streak, or pause it for a while.
